Hey Everyone… You’re getting a Two-Fer today :)   I want to talk about Ponte Knit (Ponte Di Roma) and I want to answer a Tee Fitting Question I received from Paula.   This kicks off our exciting Ponte Knit Jeans Adventure.  First, I’m going to show you my  knit and talk about it for a little.  Then it’s on to a Tee Fit Q&A.   Basically, Paula wanted to know how to scoop out the armhole to make it a little deeper, adjust the sleeve cap and take in the upper front pieces of the tee because it’s a little to wide for her.  The cool thing is that I’ve done tutorials on some of the topics that may be needed to complete the pattern adjustments.

First, if you scoop out the base of the armhole because it’s too high, then you may need to adjust the sleeve cap…but it’s hard to tell how much without walking the sleeve cap along the armhole edges.  Here is a tutorial showing how to walk the sleeve cap along the armhole.

The second part of the Tee Fit Q&A had to do with taking off 1/2″ of the width on both sides of the upper bodice pieces.  The extra width was causing the fabric to bunch up under the arms.  It may be that you need to take in the upper pieces.  This can easily be done along the seam between the center and side front pieces.  Another option would be to cut out a size smaller.  …Then you may need to relax the fit of the tee, I actually did two tutorials on this – Tutorial 1  and Tutorial 2.  Tutorial 1 shows how to slash and spread the lower bodice pieces to make room across the width of the pattern.  This is a good option if you would like to have a loose fitting tee with a fair amount of ease.  (You can customize the amount of ease by the amount you spread the pattern.)  Tutorial 2 shows how to reduce the snug fit of the tee by reducing the curved dart that is hidden in the seam between the upper and lower bodice pieces.  This method is a more subtle adjustment.

If the lower portion of the tee has enough ease, it may be that you need to do a Full Bust Adjustment.  This tutorial should how to adjust the pattern pieces to make more room in the bust.

I think that covers it.  Please let me  know if you have questions :)
